Prep For Intake
Upon Acceptance:
Responsibilities and What to Bring:
- You will need to call or email to check on the status of your application.
- Once approved, you will be given an intake date
- Wait period is about 6 – 8 weeks
- Once given an intake date you may call every Friday to see if there are any no shows or cancelations and if there is a bed open for the following week for intake
- You are responsible to arrange detox if needed and attend a week before your intake date
- You are also responsible to call BIMRC the week before intake to confirm your spot, if you do not call to confirm you spot may be cancelled and given to another client
- No over the counter medication is allowed, including cough syrup, allergy medications, Advil, Tylenol and acid reflex medication etc.
- Tylenol and Advil are supplied by the BIMRC Centre
- If you have coverage then please bring at least 1 weeks’ worth of your medication with you.
- If you do not have coverage, please let us know before your intake date and please bring 42 days’ worth of your medication. Or you can bring 1 weeks’ worth and then pay for your meds weekly.
However, you will have to pay for your meds first before they will be picked up. If you do not pay and do not have them with you, then you will not be getting your meds and in some cases, you may be discharged if this endangers your health. - Please ask you pharmacist to send your prescriptions to the following pharmacy for BIMRC to pick-up your refills while you are at the Center.
- Prescription Medication ONLY: Please see our Medical Form for Restricted Medication requiring a doctor’s note and Restricted Medication Not ALLOWED at the Centre.

- Hygiene Products: Shampoo, Conditioner, Bodywash, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Deodorant, Hand Soap, Shaving Materials (Shaving Cream & Razor), Combs, Brushes, Female products.
- Extra Personal Items: Towels, extra pillow, special blanket (These items are allowed but may be stored and treated for bedbugs for a week).
- Indoor Shoes (No Black Soles as we have a big gym).
- Sweat Lodge clothing (Shorts, T-shirt, Ribbon Skirt) We also have some clothing you could borrow here at the Centre.
- Clothing – Weather appropriate – 3-5 sets of clothing (pants, shirt, underwear, socks), sweaters, shorts. You will have access to a washer and dryer and you will have one 4 drawer dresser and a small end table. So, please do not bring more than what is absolutely needed for your stay.
**If you do not have what you need to keep yourself warm, healthy and in good hygiene please let us know and we will do our best to get you what you need.
- Weather Appropriate Outerwear: Coat, boots, shoes, sandals, ski pants, hat mitts, neck warmer, Sun hat, etc.
- Vending Machines: Candy, chips, chocolate bars, pop, juice & power aids. You can bring cash and we do have a debit machine for you to take out money.
- Tobacco & Vapes: Bring at least 1 weeks’ worth of tobacco or disposable There is a smoke run every week, usually on Tuesdays depending on staff availability.
- Snacks: You can bring you own snacks and beverages, but they have to be unopened or they will be thrown out.
- Cell phones: Allowed, however, they will be kept with the Admin/Management Staff. You will be allowed to use them daily from 3:30pm – 4:30pm in the gym and under supervision.
- Activity Material: Please bring any craft supplies, books, beading you would like to keep you busy when not in sessions or programing.
- MP3 Player: Allowed to keep with you at the Centre and a set of headphones. Please label with your name and keep with you or in your room at all times. As long as it does not connect to WI-FI.
*BIMRC is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Not Allowed at the Centre:
- Anything Containing Alcohol: Hair Spray, Hand Sanitizer, mouthwash, cologne or perfume etc.
- Electronics: Do not bring iPads, Laptops, Gaming systems or hand-held Gaming Systems. They will be taken away and given back to you when you leave.
*Please be aware we have a K9 Unit that comes to the Centre sporadically to do drug checks in the Centre, client rooms and our grounds. Don Harris and his company Exclusive K9 Detection Services.
Please Note:
- Confirmation Letters have to be requested
- Meals and Snacks: We do not have specialized meal plans (Other than accommodating Allergies), so please be aware that if you are gluten intolerant, diabetic or have heart issues it is your responsibility to monitor what you eat and drink.
- Suboxone – For those that have been prescribed suboxone please confirm you have been on a steady dose for at least 2-3 weeks prior to entering the program. This will ensure you’re stabilized on it so you can get the most out of our program.
*Just a reminder we are not a medical facility, meaning we do not have medical staff or a medical team. So, we are not equipped to handle constant medical care situations. - Bags – You are only allowed to have max 2 bags/suitcases and one carry on size bag, all other bags/suitcases will be stored in our garage until you have completed the program. Upon leaving you will receive all your baggage back.
- Donation Room – We collect clothing donations to help our clients when needed. If you need anything clothing or hygiene related, please talk to your counsellor.
- Visitors – You will be allowed a 2-hour visit at the Centre on your 4th week and it must be arranged with your counsellor a head of time.
- Mail and Supplies Drop Offs – You are able to have items mailed to you at the BIMRC, however please be advised that if it comes after you leave, we only keep it for 2 weeks and then it goes into the Donation Room.

- If we can return to sender without any cost to the Centre, then we will return to sender.
- If you let us know you are expecting something in the mail and leave a contact number. We will contact you and you will have 2 weeks to come pick it up or send us a paid Purolator Packing Label.
- Clients can have things dropped off at the Centre, it will have to go to Font Desk and your counsellor will have to go through it with you before you can take it.
- Supply Drop Offs by family or friends can only be done during Office hours, Monday – Friday from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Must come to Front Office.
- Transportation Options – Please call us and let us know how you are arriving. If coming by bus please call and arrange with us to pick you up in Bonnyville.

- You will be turned away if arrival is 3:00pm or later.

Upon Arrival to the BIMRC:
- When you first arrive at the Centre, please ask your ride (Driver) to wait with your bags until you have completed your drug and alcohol test
- You will be required to take a urine drug and alcohol test upon arrival.
- If you test positive, you will be turned away and will have to re-book
- If you test negative, you will then be accepted into the Program, your ride/driver can leave and your luggage can be brought in. You will then carry on with the intake process
Intake process:
- You will change in to scrubs that are provided for you.
- All your clothes and any fabric items (New and Old), such as blanket & pillow will all be put in the dryer for a 45min Heat Treatment. (Please leave anything you are concerned about shrinking or that could be affected by the heat treatment at home).
- Heat Treatment is safe; however, we are not responsible for any damage or shrinkage that may occur.
- Your belongings will be fulling search and separated
- Items containing alcohol such as hairspray, body sprays and hand sanitizer will be kept in Staff Room and can be accessed by the client as needed.
- Items including clothing with advertising drugs, alcohol or are gang related will be taken away and kept in Staff Only areas until you leave.
- Lockers are provided for each client and you will also be given a lock to keep your valuables (Money, smokes and jewelry) safe and accessible for you.
- Luggage is put in storage for 1-week
- You will sit with an Addictions Counsellor and go through and complete all the paperwork.
- You will be assigned a room with roommates (We are communal Living Facility)
- Lastly you will be given a tour of the building, introduced to staff and clients and taken to your room so you can settle in.
- The following day you will be assigned an Addictions Counsellor and will attend Orientation.
